Family Farmers Convene in Charleston
For National Promotion and Education Conference
Charleston, SC – Family farmers and Farm Bureau staff
from 21 states will meet in Charleston September 25-28 for
the American Farm Bureau Federation®
(AFBF) annual Promotion and Education Conference. The
meeting is hosted by the South Carolina Farm Bureau
Federation (SCFB), a non-profit advocate organization
promoting the value of family farms and rural lifestyles.
The annual meeting provides family
farmers and Farm Bureau staff from across the country
information and instruction on how to best tell the farmers’
story of producing the most abundant, affordable, and safe
food supply in the world. Education sessions for the 85
attendees will begin Wednesday morning, Sept. 26 at 7:30 in
the Carolina A ballroom of the Francis Marion Hotel in
Charleston.
Sessions will include time for each
state to share their promotion and education success
stories, a presentation on 21st century
agricultural public relations, defining various learning
styles, and ways to tailor messages for audiences with a
variety of demographics.
The group will spend Thursday touring
agricultural related venues in the Charleston area beginning
with breakfast and tea at Bigelow’s Charleston Tea
Plantation on Wadmalaw Island, the US Vegetable Laboratory
on Savannah Highway, Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant,
and the Port of Charleston.
Conference presenters will include
Terry Gilbert of Kentucky, Chair of the AFBF Women’s
Leadership Committee, Chris Chinn of Emden Missouri, Chair
of the AFBF Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, Betty
Wolanyk, Director of Education and Research for the AFBF
Foundation for Agriculture, and Gary Spires, Director of
Government Relations for the SC Farm Bureau.
