Bureau Awards Five SC State Fair Scholarships
Jessica Gallman of Union received a $1,000 scholarship to the
college or university of her choice as the winner of the
Junior Wether Goat Competition held recently during the SC
State Fair. The daughter of Andrea Justice, Jessica plans to
attend Clemson University after graduating from Jonesville
High School.

Bureau Awards Five SC State Fair Scholarships
Ann
Blumer of Chesnee (Spartanburg
County) received one of two
$2,500 scholarships to the college or university of her choice
in the Junior Beef Competition held recently at the SC State
Fair. The daughter of Adam and Nancy Blumer, Ann plans to
attend Rhodes College in
Memphis, TN.

Bureau Awards Five SC State Fair Scholarships
Elisabeth Stamey of Ruby (Chesterfield County) received a
$1,500 scholarship to the college or university of her choice
as the winner of the Junior Swine Competition held recently
during the SC State Fair. The daughter of Joel and Michelle
Stamey, Jr., Elisabeth plans to attend Clemson University
after graduating from Chesterfield High School.

County) both received college scholarships as winners of
livestock competitions held recently during the South Carolina
State Fair.

Plans
Washington, D.C. – SC Farm Bureau President David Winkles, a
Sumter County Farmer, said Monday, October 11, 2004, he is
pleased Congress passed a bill that includes the long awaited
tobacco quota buyout plan.

President David Winkles
on Governor’s Ag Commissioner Appointment
The
Governor is to be commended for carrying out such an
exhaustive search for an interim Commissioner of Agriculture.
Farm Bureau appreciates the Governor’s openness about the
qualifications the agriculture industry feels are essential
for a person in this position to hold in order to best
represent the state’s second largest industry. Farm Bureau
asked that the Governor consider appointing a person with
production agriculture experience who has the interest of
agriculture at heart.

Columbia, SC – Members of the SC Farm Bureau (SCFB) Women’s
Committee don’t want people to forget that Oct. 15 is World
Rural Women’s Day and Oct. 16 is World Food Day.

Added to the Reading List by Spartanburg County Teacher
Reading, writing, and agriculture are now
the standard subjects in a Spartanburg County classroom,
thanks to the ingenuity of a second grade teacher who received
a national grant to fund a project to help students develop a
greater appreciation for agriculture and learn about the
sources of food, fiber, and forestry products.

Columbia, SC - The South Carolina Farm Bureau
(SCFB) Marketing Association has entered
into an agreement with Southern States Cooperative, Inc. to
handle South Carolina grown grains at elevators in the
Pee Dee
region of the state.

New Sponsorships Benefit Agriculture in the Classroom
WASHINGTON,
D.C., - Two new sponsorships that will benefit agricultural
education were announced today at the national Agriculture in
the Classroom Conference in Albuquerque, N.M. Monsanto donated
$50,000 to the Agriculture in the Classroom Consortium. The
American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture awarded four
scholarships to teachers to attend the conference.

Agricultural Groups Urge Passage of Right-to-farm Amendment in
Senate
Columbia,
SC--With only five days left in the legislative session,
agricultural groups representing farmers from throughout the
state are urging Senators to "stand up for agriculture" by
passing a DHEC Regulation Bill which contains an amendment
relating to livestock and poultry.
