Lee County Young Farm Family Honored

Tyler and Keisha Epps of Lee County have recently been recognized as finalists in the South Carolina Farm Bureau Achievement Award for 2005.

The Epps were one of three families honored during award ceremonies at the recent South Carolina Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Myrtle Beach. The award is given each year, recognizing a young farmer or farm family for outstanding achievements in agriculture and in the community.

The Epps produce poultry near the Woodrow community of Lee County.

As finalists in the state contest, the Epps received a $1000 cash award compliments of the Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance, a gift from the SC Farm Bureau Products Program, and a trip to the SCFB Annual Meeting in Myrtle Beach..

In presenting the award, SCFB President David Winkles said, “South Carolina is fortunate to have so many outstanding young farm leaders. The Epps have demonstrated their dedication, enthusiasm, and interest in agriculture. Their continued success will mean much to their communities and to South Carolina. We are proud to have them as South Carolina Farm Bureau members and as finalists in the Achievement Award contest.”

The SC Farm Bureau Federation is a non-profit organization designed to promote the interests of agriculture in South Carolina. There are more than 130,000 member families statewide, with more than 35,000 of those directly involved in South Carolina agriculture.

The Young Farmer and Rancher Program is designed to encourage farmers between the ages of 18 and 35 to become active in Farm Bureau and their community. Persons interested in the program should contact Faith Lawrimore at (803) 936-4287 or by going online at www.scfb.org/young_farmer_rancher.asp.
