Awarded 2006 Dodge Truck
Thad and Jennifer Wimberly of Orangeburg County have recently
been recognized as winners of the South Carolina Farm Bureau
Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Award for 2005.
The Wimberlys were one of three finalists honored during award
ceremonies at the recent South Carolina Farm Bureau Annual
Meeting in Myrtle Beach. The award is given each year,
recognizing a young farmer or farm family for outstanding
achievements in agriculture and in the community.
The Wimberlys operate a farm near Bowman, SC, producing
peanuts, cotton, corn, soybeans, wheat and beef cattle.
As finalists in the state contest, they received a $1000 cash
award compliments of the Southern Farm Bureau Casualty
Insurance, a gift from the SC Farm Bureau Products Program,
and a trip to the SCFB Annual Meeting in Myrtle Beach.
Additionally as the state winners the Wimberlys received a
Dodge Ram SLT 2500 Quad Cab SWB with a 5.7L V8 “Magnum Engine”
from the Southern Farm Bureau Causality Insurance, as well as
$500 in cash from the Dodge Division of Chrysler Motors, and
an expense paid trip to the American Farm Bureau Convention in
Nashville, Tennesse, in January 2006.
The Wimberlys will represent South Carolina in national
competition where they will have the opportunity to compete
for additional prizes. The contestant named the National
Achievement Award winner receives a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT
Quad Cab 4x4 pickup truck with a 5.9L Cummins HO Turbo Diesel
engine , a voucher redeemable for $2500 worth of Syngenta
products, and free registration to the 2006 AFBF YF&R
Leadership Conference in February 2006 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The four national runners-up each receive a Case IH DX compact
tractor. The Top Ten National runners-up each receive a
voucher redeemable for $1500 worth of Syngenta products.
In presenting the award, SCFB President David Winkles said,
“South Carolina is fortunate to have so many outstanding young
farm leaders. The Wimberlys have demonstrated their
dedication, enthusiasm, and interest in agriculture. Their
continued success will mean much to their community and to
South Carolina. We are proud to have them as South Carolina
Farm Bureau members and as state winners in the Achievement
Award Contest.”
The SC Farm Bureau Federation is a non-profit organization
designed to promote the interests of agriculture in South
Carolina. There are more than 130,000 member families
statewide, with more than 35,000 of those directly involved in
South Carolina agriculture.
The Young
Farmer and Rancher Program is designed to encourage farmers
between the ages of 18 and 35 to become active in Farm Bureau
